Capetonians in Ireland
Working with “the Slieve Gullion Wheelers”

By Ray Gamble.

SLIEVE GULLION WHEELERS A.G.M.

There was a good turnout at the club’s recent A.G.M. held in the Mountain House lounge. Outgoing chairman Kevin Kenny thanked everyone for their support during the past year and was pleased to report on another very successful year for the club. Kevin stated it was good to see a continued increase in club membership, more riders out on the road and the club being involved in new things such as time trialling. He highlighted the great effort members made to take part in other club tours, some of the SGW cyclists competing in 10 or more cycle events. He congratulated all those who had taken part in the Bordertrek raising funds for the Samaritans, Multiple Sclerosis and the Irish Pilgrim Trust. The Walking and Tandem Cycling Health (WATCH) club for Visually Impaired People (VIP) had six tandems complete the 200 mile event and that itself was a great achievement. He said, “It is very pleasing to see the active involvement of club members, operating in tandem with visually impaired people, in the running of the WATCH club.” In conclusion Kevin thanked Sean Hearty Oils for sponsoring the clubs new cycling kit and how well the club cyclists looked in their new gear on the Minnie Clarke Tour. This new tour has been a great success bringing in many new cycling faces from as far away as Galway
